George Lucas’s Star Wars is easily one of the biggest film brands of all time. The first film had hit theaters over 42 years back in 1977 and turned out to be a mega blockbuster. Titled Star Wars: A New Hope, the film had amassed $ 775m globally with North America contributing around $ 461m. The film stands tall as one of the biggest hits of all time in the history of cinema.
Since then we have seen 11 Star Wars movies and commutative global box office collections of the series crossed $ 10bn last week and it stands at a staggering $ 10.1bn with latest film Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker grossing $ 851m till now.
Highest grosser film for the series is 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the film is till date highest grossing film in North America with lifetime numbers topping $ 936m. Whereas global tally of The Force Awakens tops $ 2.06bn. The Force Awakens is the only film from Star Wars series which has topped $ 2bn worldwide.
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is currently 5th highest grossing film globally for the series behind Star Wars: The Force Awaken (2015), Star Wars: The Lat Jedi (2017), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999).
The Rise Of Skywalker will probably top $ 1bn mark worldwide in coming weeks becoming 6th Star Wars film to hit that mark.
