Year 2019 ended on a low note as yearly gross fell around 35% compared to previous year. In 2018 for the first cinema had seen yearly gross hitting PKR 2bn but in 2019 the commutative business couldn’t even hit PKR 1.5bn. We didn’t see the releases of Humayun Saeed, Shaan Shahid, Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar or Fahad Mustafa in 2019. Coming year is extremely important as many big budgets of top stars are expected to hit screens. On top of that with no bollywood films, these films will need to meet the expectations.
Target in 2020 will be to beat the yearly gross of 2018. Since there are many big films lined up for 2020, the figures of 2018 should be matched unless things go horribly worong. For now let’s take a look at the major films which will make or break 2020.
The Legend Of Maula Jatt
The Legend Of Maula Jatt is easily one of the biggest films of Pakistani cinema industry. The film was earlier expected to release in 2019 but now the film will be releasing in 2020. Starring Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan and Humaima Malick, The Legend Of Maula Jatt is the most expensive film in the history. The film will definitely take thunderous start at box office and its lifetime performance will be very important for cinema industry in 2020.
Money Back Guarantee
Money Back Guarantee has very lucrative cast and a big budget too. The film will see Wasim Akram in action alongside Fawad Khan and other big stars. Based on a bank robbery, Money Back Guarantee will be a commercial film which is expected to release on Eid ul Fitr. The film will definitely take huge initials with extra push of Eid footfalls. Money Back Guarantee will be a massala film and it will have a huge potential at box office. Its performance will be extremely vital for 2020.
London Nahi Jaunga
The blockbuster duo of Humayun Saeed and Nadeem Baig will be back to screens next year. The duo has always taken box office to a new level and this time again the expectations are mammoth. Target will be topping the box office numbers of their film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 (PKR 520 million). The film is expected to hit screens on Eid ul Azha and the film will definitely be the biggest bonanza of 2020. London Nahi Jaunga will take massive start and if the content gets appreciation like previous works of Humayun and Nadeem then sky will be the limit for this film.
Quaid e Azam Zindabad
Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan will be sharing silver screen for the first time with Nabeel Qureshi’s action packed cop film Quaid e Azam Zindabad. Action genre is always extremely favorable at box office with massive initial pull but sadly other than Teefa In Trouble no film has tried to hit this genre properly. The film will take massive start at the box office and if action and emotions are right in place then there will be no stopping for this film. On top of that Quaid e Azam Zindabad will be releasing on Eid ul Azha which will give it further boost.
Shan Shahid starrer Zarrar is in pipelines for more than a year. The film is expected to release in 2020. There is no confirmed release date for this film as yet but its a big budget film with action elements in it. Shaan Shahid is probably the biggest action star in Pakistan and with Zarrar the initials will be huge and then it will be down to the content. If the content delivers with right emotions then Zarrar will be a massive hit at box office.
We will be seeing some other films too which have potential to do well at the box office. Sarmad Khoosat’s Kamli is slated for Eid ul Fitr release and the film does have good potential with niche audiences. Also Yasir Nawaz and Wajaht Rauf will be bringing their projects next year as well and their films will have buzz too.
