Pakistani model and actress Rehmat Ajmal made her acting debut with the massively followed drama Mere Paas Tum Ho. The Nadeem Baig directorial has some major names attached as it stars Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan, Adnan Siddique, Hira Mani and Savera Nadeem. The serial has been written by renowned playwright Khalil ur Rehman Qamar.
Mere Paas Tum Ho has shattered records with sky rocketing ratings and fan following. Now the drama is all set to screen its last episode in cinemas. However the drama has also had fair share of criticism especially on its content. The criticism was further accelerated as Khalil ur Rehman Qamar expressed his views on various talk shows.
Rehmat’s character was introduced midway through the drama as Mehwish’s college friend. The model took to her Instagram account to address the criticism she has been receiving over her involvement with the drama. She penned a heartfelt note to put her point of view across:
“I understand that we as artists have a social responsibility in terms of the content we produce and the messages we put forward – & that I take that responsibility with a lot of seriousness and dignity. I’ve been receiving a lot of concerned, hateful and confused messages since the past few months and as much as I want to address them individually, I think I’ll just give an overview of my perspective for now,” wrote Rehmat.
Fans and audiences alike have been criticising the writer behind the cult classic Meray Paas Tum Ho. The acclaimed writer has been very vocal on numerous platforms on what he discerns as feminism and rights of women. Rehmat drew the attention of the readers to this aspect and clarified that she in no way endorses his ideology nor was she familiar with his views prior to completing the project.
“I absolutely do not endorse the concepts and viewpoints of Mr. Khalil ul Rehman. I watched Khalil ul Rehman’s interview and got to know about his problematic views on very many things WAY after the project was completed,”
She further added that she was not aware of the entire plot as her role is very limited.
“I am not proud to be a part of something that is so compromising and ill-informed. However, I (like many others) was not aware of the entire story line or Mr. Khalil ul Rehman’s ideology at the time this project was shot – which was a year ago. My role in this project is limited so, I did not get a chance to see how it’ll come together or how it’ll eventually unroll on television and that is where I think I slipped a little. It was my first ever telecom project and I am learning – I have learnt to be cautious and more conscious with my creative choices,”
Rehmat Ajmal is a renowned model who entered the acting sphere with Mere Paas Tum Ho. She concluded her note by requesting viewers to give her some margin as she herself is new to this and is learning.
“Please extend new, struggling artists some leeway as we are in the process of learning – we are also trying very hard to make our own mark solely based on our merit,”
