Following the 25 anniversary celebrations, the speculations about a possible reunion for Friends were addressed in a joint Instagram post. The hype following this news was of course unreal. Just like the news of the reunion was kept under wraps for a long time, the team has remained tight lipped about what to expect from the special as well. However during a recent interview Lisa Kudrow, who played the eccentric Phoebe Buffay on the show, revealed some insights on what to expect from the special.
While speaking to The Sunday Times, Kudrow emphasize on how audience haven’t seen all six of the show’s ensemble cast together on screen which will be a major draw. However, they will not be donning their characters from the show. “No audience has seen us together since the show was over. We will reminisce, talk about what was going on behind the scenes. It’s not us playing our characters. It’s not an episode. It’s not scripted. It’s six of us coming together for the first time in I don’t know how long.”
Talking about how the decade that the six of them shared, Kudrow mentioned how they have so many memories from their time on Friends. She was excited about sitting down and actually reminiscing those times, “I think that I remember things, but then I talk to Matt [LeBlanc] or Jennifer [Aniston], and they remember everything. It’s really fun.”
Though the show concluded 16 years ago it has managed to remain relevant all these years. The show also got a digital release with it making its way to streaming giant Netflix. However after the launch of HBO Max, the show will be shifting there.
The reunion is due to be available for streaming on HBO Max which is launching May 27. However due to the prolonging coronavirus situation, studio productions are at halt and sadly the special is yet to be recorded.
While speaking to Variety, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt shared that they are hoping that could shoot it till the end of summer. “We’re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer, if the stars align and hopefully we can get back into production.”
