Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty show promise in Nikhil Advani’s directorial venture ,”Hero” despite a weak script. The movie was always going to have a big buzz as Salman Khan aka Sallu Bhai’s name was attached to it. Even though it might be considered a letdown but both the debutantes have shown glimpses that they can make it big.
The film is a remake of Subash Ghai’s “Hero” starring Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Seshadri. The concept however might be a bit stale for 2015. Sooraj(Sooraj Pancholi) is a macho gangster and Radha(Athiya Shetty) is the IG’s daughter. Both the leads have decent chemistry together too and seem poised for their first outing on-screen. The script is simply not up to the mark with the silliest of kidnapping’s reserved for Athiya Shetty by Sooraj Pancholi’s character and friends. Tigmanshu Dhiulia as the leading lady’s father has given a fine performance but still couldn’t save the movie. Vivan Bhatena, as the antagonist Prince Rannvijay Shekhawat, shows off his presence felt in a small, but well-defined and executed role.
Sooraj Pancholi like many of the newcomers in Bollywood today has a good built and lot of muscle to show but he needs to develop more as an actor while Athiya Shetty had many cocky dialogues which she delivered rather unconvincingly. The fault here lies with the director and not so much with the young actors. Not all is bad with the movie as the music very satisfactory and some of the fight sequences are brilliantly done.
“Hero” has some really good production values, thanks to Salman Khan being at the helm off production related affairs but the execution and direction were a letdown however the two new up-comer’s have shown they might just have a future in Bollywood. Many true Salman fan’s might sill watch this movie as Salman pop’s up right in the end credits. Watch this movie if you are not into continuity and logic.
