Released two years back in October, The Donkey King rewrote box office history. Aziz Jindani directorial took the collections of animated films to a new level. Furthermore, the film crossed the numbers of every non Holiday release in Pakistan outside Teefa In Trouble.
3 Bahadur 2 was highest grossing animated feature prior to The Donkey King at PKR 82 million. The Donkey King crossed this number during second week itself and became first animated film to hit PKR 100 million mark at box office. The film had reached PKR 100 million mark on 15th day of its release.
The Donkey King crossed PKR 150 million mark on 22nd day becoming first animated film to hit that mark then it crossed PKR 200 million mark during its sixth week. The film finished its run with a gross of little over PKR 245 million. The film did almost three times the business of 3 Bahadur 2 which stood second highest grossing animated film.
It must be noted here that The Donkey King despite being an animated film saw box office trending which was something not seen in recent years. We saw second and third week’s box office numbers of the film more than its opening week which is a spectacular and never seen before feat.
The film’s records will definitely stand for many years before we see another animated film coming even close to The Donkey King. It must be noted here that there are couple of single screens where The Donkey King stands tall as all time highest grossing film beating films like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 and Punjab Nahi Jaungi. One such example is Ciros Cinema from Rawalpindi.
Keep an eye out on this space for more.
