After a long wait of over two years The Legend Of Maula Jatt is all set to release. The makers opted for Eid ul Fitr 2020 release which puts it opposite the biggest film brand in Pakistan i.e. Fast & Furious series. Whenever a Fast & Furious series film has released in Pakistan it has taken box office to new levels.
Released way back in 2015, Fast & Furious 7 had become first film to hit PKR 20 million in a single day in Pakistan and it is the only English film of all time to hold lifetime grosser record. Furious 7 till date stands tall as third highest grossing Hollywood film of all time.
Two years later Fast 8 took opening to new levels as it became only second film after Salman Khan’s Sultan to hit PKR 30 million in a single day. Furthermore, the film went on to register second biggest opening weekend of all time only behind Sultan and the biggest non Holiday opening weekend. Last year we saw Hobbs & Shaw a Fast & Furious spin off releasing during pre-Eid season, a dull release period yet took box office by storm. The film stands tall as 5th highest grossing Hollywood film of all time.
Now The Legend Of Maula Jatt is easily the biggest Pakistani film of recent times and it has all the potential to beat Fast 9 in this clash but the real victory for The Legend Of Maula Jatt will come in the long run. Action films are usually front loaded and both Fast 9 and The Legend Of Maula Jatt are action flicks. This means both might see big drops after opening weeks.
It will be very neck to neck competition in mass circuits and we might see some small cities leading for Fast 9 as Fast & Furious series hold unprecedented records in mass circuits. The dubbed version of Fast 9 will take stupendous start in mass pockets however in Lahore The Legend Of Maula Jatt should score big. It’s the lead in Lahore which will determine how big The Legend Of Maula Jatt will get.
Well it is way too early to predict what will happen over the Eid as we all are waiting for new trailers of The Legend Of Maula Jatt and Fast 9. For now it will be one of the most fierce box office clashes in the history of Pakistani cinema.
