Whenever film industry talks of Revival Of Pakistani cinema it started from Khuda Ke Liye which released 10 years back on same date i.e. 20th July.. Back then industry had very few screens and film did wonders at boxoffice.. Film was released in only 16 35mm prints only.. Film not only took bumper start at boxoffice but saw long and solid run for Weeks and collected over 8cr approx..
Footfalls film saw from limited screens is a feat which is unimaginable. Film had got universal appreciation and appreciation like that is not seen by any film since and only film which can be compared to that appreciation is Bol.. Film performed to it’s full capacity in 2007 and made a base for not only coming Pakistani films but also for big Hindi films when Singh Is King in 2008 had done massive business but still fell way short of Khuda Ke Liye. Film was released by Geo Films and it stared Shaan Shahid, Fawad Khan and Iman Ali in lead roles and directed by Shoaib Mansoor..
Film’s records stood for three years when in 2010 My Name Is Khan broke film’s opening records but fell short of Lifetime records. In 2011 we atlast saw all records of Khuda Ke Liye Broken by Bol and that film was second step towards revival staring Manzar Sehbai, Humaima Malick, Iman Ali, Mahira Khan and Atif Aslam. Bol was also directed by Shoaib Mansoor and was also released by Geo Films. Now six years later Shoaib Mansoor returns with Verna expected to release by end of 2017..
10 years after first step of Khuda Ke Liye this Industry has gone through many phases. Industry’s single day capacity has increased more than 20 times and it will be interesting to see that how Shoaib Mansoor film will fare in these days as he is the only film director in Pakistan whose films did wonders at both big and small centers and that too when there were very few screens.. If Verna repeat what Khuda Ke Liye did back in 2007 then we will see new lifetime and opening records that will stand for years..
